This Sunday morning I completed my once-a-year run to the historic Fort McHenry.  For this workout I start at my sister’s house on Yolando Road and run over to Saint Paul Street then following the Baltimore Marathon Course down to the Inner Harbor and out to and around Fort McHenry before heading back.  It’s really a neat experience to see the sunrise over harbor.  Also, I saw a number of early-morning runners getting in some miles around the Inner Harbor and quite a few Miami Dolphin fans already starting their tailgate parities in preparation for today’s game against the Ravens.  The total distance of this run was 14.7 miles at an easy pace (i.e., 8:36 minutes-per-mile).

In regards to my daily non-running workout, I completed 300 sit-ups, 30 push-ups, and a 60-second plank.

I love that run!! I used to go to a conference in Baltimore every year and I would run almost that exact route (but I would start near St. Paul near the hotel and add on a little of the Fells Point area before heading across to Fort McHenry.

I am glad you had a good workout!

Okay Bonnie, I might have to run Fells Point tomorrow morning before I catch my flight back to SLC; that is, I have not run in this particular area for a few years. Maybe a run through Fells Point, around the harbor and up Federal Hill the back by way of Camden Yards and Mt. Vernon Place. We'll see if I can get it in. Also, I'm very impressed with your Baltimore running experience!

That running experience is nothing! The conference that I spoke of was in July. One year they lost my luggage - I got in very late the night before my long run and then the next day I did not have any running things until about Noon-1PM. It was HOT (high 80s and very humid, you know, usual Baltimore summer). I had a 14 mile run scheduled so what was I to do? As soon as I received my luggage I got ready for my very hot afternoon run. I ran on the Gwynns Fall trail, which is nice for parts, but some parts go through some less-than-ideal neighborhoods and homeless camps. All was well, except it was miserably hot, it was so hot out that the "bad" people weren't outside -- and those that were just looked at me like *I* was the crazy one for running ;-)

Love the July-Baltimore running story Bonnie! The first time I came to Baltimore was in August of 2001 and I learned my lesson, never visit in the summertime. Since 2001, I have only come back in the fall when the weather is much less humid. We are lucky being from the dry-heat part of the country. Also, I have never noticed the Gwynns Fall trail (bike path) until my run today. As a result, I followed it for a mile or so through the nice neighborhoods. I know what you mean, I have been running through nice neighborhoods then all of a sudden I realize I'm running through a sketchy neighborhood where all of the houses are boarded up. Happy Running!
